Company Trip

After a few weeks of tests and assignment,
we finally can have a short Sem break before the final exam
1 Week Holiday!

Just before my 1 Week Holiday
I went for a company trip organized by Monash Accounting Club
We visited 2 famous company

The first company is...
Just a brieft introduce about this company
It is one of the largest professional services firms in the world
and one of the Big Four auditors
along with Deloitte, Ernst & Young and PwC.

They are actually offering 3 lines of services
Audit, Tax and Advisory

Honestly
I am actually not aware that KPMG is one of the Big Four auditors
all I know is the Ernst & Young
However, after a 3 hours tour in the company
I start to realize what are the job scope for Auditors about
It is actually quite a hectic job
Of course, hard work paid off.
The 1st question I asked is
"How much will an Auditor earn per month approximately?"
For fresh degree graduates, it is around $2600
"So what's highest level income can an Parter earn in Auditors Firm earn?"
It is around 1 - 3 million per year.
"So how long could a person takes to reach that level"
It is depends on your capabilities and the amount of hard work had that you put in,
One of the youngest partner in KPMG is only 29 years old as he start at 19 years old.
And this is the fastest time for the time being for one to reached partner level.

The working environment at is very stressful
All you can see is stacks and stacks of file on top of the employee table
They looks really stressful
may be this explained why they are one of the Big Four Auditors

After visiting KPMG
We went over to visit the second company
BASF is one of the world leading chemical company
Malaysia's BASF is establishing a shared service centre
Stop there!
You guys must be wondering why is Chemical Company do with me
as I am a Accounting and Finance student.
However, every company needs accounting and finance department
however BASF Malaysia is a shared service centre
so called a main service centre
It provides support services in
financial and accounting, Information technology/information services and human resources
to BASF subsidiaries and affiliates in 15 countries in Asia Pacific.

Basically, the difference between BASF and KPMG is the working environment
I felt the BASF has a better working environment compared to KPMG
Their wall is very colorful and even their room name is unique
unlike other company
their room name is actually the country name
e.g. Korea, Japan, Australia, Kuala Lumpur and etc.

The interesting part about BASF is that they are actually having this program
That actually train fresh graduates for 2 years
and if after 2 years
he/she gets through the test or requirement
he/she can promote to become manager
It sounds "fast" and interesting
and you know is not that easy
but it is not impossible though

It is a good experience after the company trip
One important things that I forgot to mention about is
In order to work with them
one of the requirement is that your GPA has to be more than 3.2

3.2 is quite a high achievement as you has
consistently get Distinction for 3 years
which means for all the 24 units for Monash Business Students
you have to get at least a Distinction for every units.

Anyway, I personally think that GPA is really just a passport to interview
It only shows that you can study well, you are very hardworking
but if you just happen to throw a stone to the competitive world out there
everyone is at least a degree holder and some are double degrees

So, seriously,
How are you going to fight with them?
By participating co-coriculmum activities? Yes you can
By studying oversea? Yes you can, as you can get a greater exposure.
and there are more.
Do you think GPA is important?
Do you think participating CCA is essential?
Do you think studying oversea would make you a better chances then?
The Answer is a Yes.
BUT
Do you know why?
